How to use the free QR code generator

This free QR code generator creates static QR codes for links, Wi-Fi access and text in your browser. Paste an address to see a preview without an account or app installation. Optionally choose a color, center icon, uploaded logo or a Scan me caption, then download a PNG, SVG or print PDF. Use the same page for a website QR, branded QR, text QR or a printable Wi-Fi sign. The QR contains your content directly rather than relying on a hosted redirect created by this tool.

Wi-Fi mode also makes a printable sign for a shop, café or guest accommodation. Use one large A4 sign for a wall or counter, or 4 A6 cards on A4 to cut out for tables. The sign can display the network name and password as text for people who cannot scan it. Generation runs locally in the browser; entered Wi-Fi credentials and uploaded logo files are not sent to a generation server. Anyone with the QR can still read the credentials, even if the printed password text is hidden.

When this tool is needed

  • Add a website or social link to a business card, leaflet or poster with your brand color and logo.
  • Provide a Wi-Fi sign for guests in a café, restaurant or holiday rental.
  • Print repeated QR stickers for products, equipment or packaging.
  • Get a vector SVG or high-resolution PNG for a design or large print.

Check before entering

  • Enter the full address starting with https:// when possible. If omitted, the tool adds https:// and tells you.
  • Match the router’s network name exactly, including case and spaces.
  • A PNG logo with a simple background works well. Wide logos keep their proportions in a matching center area.
  • Light codes or dark backgrounds fall outside the allowed scan range and block downloads. Choose a dark code.

How to use

  1. Choose link, Wi-Fi or text. Add ?type=wifi to this page’s address to open Wi-Fi mode directly.
  2. Enter a link, network name and password, or text. The preview updates as you type.
  3. Optionally open Customize to choose a color, center icon, logo or caption frame. The default is a plain black QR.
  4. Check the recommended print size and the automated decoder test range shown under the preview.
  5. Download a PNG, SVG or print PDF. In Wi-Fi mode, download a sign as one A4 page or 4 A6 cards.

Minimum print size and margin

Print size depends on the number of QR modules. This tool uses a recommended module width of 0.5mm and shows a minimum size including the margin: (module count + 8 margin modules) × 0.5mm, rounded up to 1mm. A code width around 1/10 of the scanning distance is only a starting heuristic; test your device and print conditions. At 300dpi, a 1000px PNG is roughly 8.5cm wide and a 2000px PNG about 17cm. For larger designs, use SVG. The print PDF warns when your selected size is below the tool’s recommended minimum.

How logo and color limits support scanning

QR codes include error-correction data to recover some damaged data. With a center icon or logo, this tool fixes correction at H (30%) and limits the covered area to a square with sides up to 22% of the code side; wide logos use a corresponding wide area. These percentages are not a promise that any damage pattern will scan. The tool protects finder and alignment patterns and skips symbol sizes with an alignment pattern at the center. Downloads require a dark code on a light background (luma at least 160/255) and contrast of at least 4.5. These conservative boundaries come from automated decoding at full size and after reduction and blur.

Static or dynamic QR codes: which should I use?

A hosted dynamic QR service usually sends the scanner through a provider-controlled redirect. This tool creates a static QR containing your content directly. Choose according to whether you need later link changes or scan reporting.

What you share and what stays unchanged

A QR code is not encryption. Hiding the printed Wi-Fi password does not remove credentials from the QR, so anyone with the code can read them. Share only a network you intend to make available and consider where the sign will be displayed. Your URL, text, SSID, password, uploaded logo and custom caption are not translated. Only owned interface wording, default sign labels and preset captions change language. Text and spaces around Wi-Fi values remain as entered. For links, check the displayed normalization of outer spaces and an omitted https:// prefix.

Common QR creation mistakes

Creating the code is straightforward, but these six mistakes can prevent the final print from working as intended.

Sources and review: the encoder uses QR Code Model 2 structure (ISO/IEC 18004) and the common WIFI: payload convention. Golden tests compare byte-mode capacities with the encoder: L 2,953 / M 2,331 / Q 1,663 / H 1,273 bytes. In the 2026-10-29 review, PNG, SVG, print PDFs and Wi-Fi sign PDFs were downloaded with color, icon, uploaded-logo and caption combinations. The zxing-cpp decoder read the exact input bytes at full size and after shrinking and blur. This is automated file evidence, not a promise about every camera or printed surface.

Use this page to create a free link QR, Wi-Fi QR or printable Wi-Fi sign: enter content, optionally customize it, then download. The generated code is static and contains the entered information. Regenerate it when details change. Wi-Fi joining depends on the scanning device, operating system and supported QR format.

FAQ

How do I create a QR code?

Use three steps. Choose link, Wi-Fi or text and enter the content to see a live preview. Optionally add a color, center icon, logo or Scan me caption. Then download PNG, SVG or a print PDF. Wi-Fi mode also offers a sign PDF for a shop or guest accommodation. No app installation or account is required.

Is it free, and do the QR codes expire or have scan limits?

The tool is free, with no watermark, registration or payment. It makes static QR codes and imposes no expiry or scan-count limit on the encoded data. However, a destination website can close and a damaged print may fail to scan. You cannot later change the data inside an existing static QR; regenerate and replace it when a link or password changes. If you need scan reports or later link editing, consider a dynamic QR service.

How do Wi-Fi QR codes and signs work, and is my password uploaded?

Enter the SSID and password in Wi-Fi mode. The QR uses a common payload such as WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;. Download one large A4 sign or 4 A6 cards on A4 for tables. You can show or hide the printed password text; hiding it does not remove the credentials from the QR. Processing stays in the browser and the tool does not upload or store your entered credentials. Try the camera or QR scanner on iPhone, or a compatible camera, Google Lens or Wi-Fi settings scanner on Android. Menus and connection support vary by device. Hidden networks may require manual entry.

Can I add a logo or color without making the QR unreadable?

The tool blocks some unfavorable combinations and checks its allowed range with automated decoding. A center icon or logo fixes error correction at H (30%) and limits the covered area to a square with sides of 22% of the QR side; wide logos keep their proportions within the same area. The code must be darker than a light background (luma at least 160/255) with contrast of at least 4.5. Mid-tone gray, blue or orange backgrounds are blocked even if they look reasonable on screen. The range was tested with reduced and blurred images, but it does not guarantee every real scan. Test the actual print with a phone before use.

Which print size and file format should I choose?

The tool calculates a recommended minimum using modules of at least 0.5mm; this is not a scan guarantee. Check the recommended size below the result. The print PDF places a QR at 3·5·8·10cm on A4 and warns if the selection is too small. SVG works well in business-card or leaflet designs because it scales without pixelation. A 1000px PNG suits many documents; for a large poster, choose a 2000px PNG or SVG. Keep the 4-module white margin around the code.
