English road and administrative-area names are used exactly as returned by the MOIS address API. The tool adds unit details and building names. Listed apartment brands use their English spellings, such as Raemian and Hillstate; other names follow Korea’s Revised Romanization.
How to write a Korean delivery address in English
This converter writes a Korean road or lot address in English for delivery to South Korea, international post or documents. Enter the address in Hangul. The MOIS English address API returns its English road address, such as 152 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, its lot address and 5-digit postal code. The tool follows the MOIS English address order and splits the result into Address Line 1 · Address Line 2 · City · State · ZIP. Building, unit, floor and apartment-name details are not supplied by the search result; enter them separately to include them. It does not convert addresses in the US, Spain or other countries.
Shipping problems can come from field placement as well as spelling. Korean addresses run from the larger area to the smaller unit; English versions put the unit before the building number and road, city/county/district, province, postal code and country. Different sites use different field names, so Seoul and Gangnam-gu are easy to confuse. This tool shows the same Korean address in four layouts: a postal / EMS line, Amazon style, AliExpress / Temu style and iHerb style. Copy the values that match the receiving form.

Before converting
- Check the road address against your mail, address certificate or a Korean map first. A different building number can produce a different postal code.
- Prepare the recipient’s English name as required by the receiving service and an international-format phone number, such as +82 10-1234-5678 with the initial domestic 0 removed. Korean import clearance may require the recipient’s name, phone and customs identifier to match.
- For eligible personal imports into Korea, check the Korea Customs Service UNI-PASS requirements for a personal customs clearance code: 13 characters beginning with P. Enter it in the dedicated customs field, never in the address field.
How to use
- Enter a Korean road address, lot address or building name in Hangul. A single result is selected automatically; otherwise choose the correct building number from the list.
- Enter building, unit and floor details in Korean, such as building 101, unit 1203, floor 3 or basement unit 102. Add an apartment or building name in its separate field when needed.
- Read the English address on one line, in MOIS order. Copy that line for letters or documents.
- Choose the shipping template that matches your site. Copy each value beside Address Line 1, Line 2, City, State and ZIP, or use Copy all fields.
- Select South Korea (Korea, Republic of) in the site’s country dropdown. Enter the name, phone and any required customs identifier in their own fields. Recheck the 5-digit postal code and building/unit numbers before ordering.
Why does the English version start with the smallest unit?
The MOIS guidance from May 2012 describes English road addresses in the reverse of Korean order: small unit first, then larger areas, with road and administrative names romanized. For example, building 101, unit 102 at 78 Gwangnaru-ro 507-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul can be written (Gwangjang-dong, Sindo Apt), 101-dong 102-ho, 78 Gwangnaru-ro 507-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Reference information such as a legal neighborhood or apartment name can be omitted or placed in parentheses at the front when needed. Metropolitan cities omit -si, as in Seoul and Busan. Road types retain -daero, -ro and -gil (beon-gil). The one-line output follows that order and adds the postal code and Republic of Korea for international post.
Building, unit, floor and basement notation
The same guidance uses romanized building, floor and unit terms as the general form, while allowing common English-style equivalents. Building 705, unit 1104 at 56 Dalgubeol-daero 323beon-gil, Suseong-gu, Daegu can be written 705-dong 1104-ho, 56 Dalgubeol-daero 323beon-gil, Suseong-gu, Daegu, or 705-1104, 56 Dalgubeol-daero 323beon-gil, Suseong-gu, Daegu. Floor 3 is 3-cheung or 3F; building Ga, basement unit 101 is Ga-dong Jiha 101-ho or Ga-B101. The tool defaults to short forms for compact shopping fields. Choose romanized forms when a document calls for them. In either case, keep every building and unit digit and its order unchanged.
Splitting Line 1, Line 2, City, State and ZIP
Address Line 1 contains the building number and road, for example 152 Teheran-ro. Add the district here when it lies within a city, such as Bundang-gu in Seongnam-si. Address Line 2 contains building, unit, floor and building-name details, or stays empty. City holds the district for metropolitan cities, such as Gangnam-gu, or a city/county in a province, such as Seongnam-si or Ulleung-gun. State/Province holds Seoul, Gyeonggi-do or the corresponding province/metropolitan city; ZIP holds the 5-digit postal code. The AliExpress / Temu template puts Province before City, using the same values. Select South Korea or Korea, Republic of in the country dropdown; use Republic of Korea when writing an envelope.
Other details to check before shipping
Imports into Korea can also require the recipient’s English name, international phone number and personal customs clearance code. Follow the site and Korea Customs Service instructions for your case; the name converter is a romanization aid, not proof of a passport spelling. A Korean phone number may be written +82 10-1234-5678 with the first domestic 0 removed. The personal customs code is obtained through UNI-PASS identity verification and has 13 characters starting with P. Check the final address preview for the 5-digit postal code and unchanged unit numbers. FAQ
What goes in Address Line 1 and Address Line 2?
Put the building number and road, such as 152 Teheran-ro, in Address Line 1. Put building, unit or floor details, such as 705-1104 or 3F, and the apartment name in Address Line 2. The MOIS one-line order places small unit details before the road; a two-line form separates those parts into Line 2 and Line 1. When a city contains a district, such as Bundang-gu in Seongnam-si, add Bundang-gu at the end of Line 1 and put Seongnam-si in City.
What goes in City and State for a Korean address?
State contains the province or metropolitan city, such as Seoul, Gyeonggi-do or Busan. City contains a district, city or county, such as Gangnam-gu, Seongnam-si or Ulleung-gun. For an address in Seoul, use Seoul as State and its district, for example Gangnam-gu, as City. Including the district helps identify the destination. For Sejong, which has no districts of this kind, both City and State can be Sejong-si.
How do I write an apartment unit: 101-1203 or 101-dong 1203-ho?
The MOIS guidance accepts both romanized forms, such as 705-dong 1104-ho, 3-cheung and Jiha 101-ho, and common short forms, such as 705-1104, 3F and B101. The tool defaults to short forms for shopping fields with limited space. Switch to romanized forms when needed for post or documents. Preserve all building and unit numbers and their order so the local delivery service can identify the destination.
Which postal code and country name should I use?
Use Korea’s 5-digit national basic-district postal code, introduced in August 2015, for example 06236. The tool displays the MOIS result unchanged; do not replace it with an old 6-digit code. Republic of Korea is the formal English country name for envelopes. A shopping site may list South Korea, Korea (South) or Korea, Republic of. Choose the South Korean entry and check that you have not selected Korea, Democratic People’s Republic of, which is North Korea.
Is my address sent to a server, and what is stored?
The Hangul address search term goes via Toolvil’s server to the MOIS English address API. Toolvil does not keep a separate permanent address history; identical query results may be cached by the CDN for up to one day. Separately entered building, unit and floor details, apartment names, field splitting and copying stay in the current browser and are not sent.
