Spacing, background, and save settings

Transparent areas are filled white when saving as JPG. Animated images are processed as a single still image.

When you add photos, a preview appears.

The checkerboard is the transparent area. On the screen it is shown scaled down, and check the actual saved size by the pixel count.

    How to use Join Photos

    1. Press Add photos to choose PNG, JPG, or WebP, or drag files onto the work area. If you add more, they are appended after the existing list.
    2. Choose the layout that fits your purpose among vertical, horizontal, and grid. The 2-column and 3-column setting appears only when you select grid.
    3. Choose Keep original pixels or Match size (keep proportions). In the list, press the Move earlier and Move later buttons to adjust the photo order, and delete photos you do not need.
    4. If needed, expand the spacing, background, and save settings to choose the margin and the color. For spacing other than the set values, enter an integer of 0~200px in Custom.
    5. Check the preview and the actual output pixel count, and press Save image. For a transparent background you can use PNG or WebP, and for a photo with a white background you can use JPG.
    6. Open the downloaded file again and check the text size, orientation, and order. The original does not change, so if you do not like the result, correct the settings and save again.

Difference between keeping the original size and matching the size

If you join a 960×540px photo and a 600×300px photo horizontally with no spacing, keeping the original size results in 1,560×540px. The smaller photo is placed at the vertical center, and margin remains above and below. Matching the width and height sets the height of both photos to 540px, so the smaller photo is enlarged to 1,080×540px and the result becomes 2,040×540px. The two results are a difference in layout policy, and they do not mean that the larger file is sharper.

Size matching in a vertical layout keeps the aspect ratio based on the width of the widest photo. The grid creates cells of the same size from the widest width and the tallest height and places the whole photo inside. Because photos are not overlapped or cropped, a large difference in aspect ratio increases the empty area.

    Save quality and processing limits

Saving as PNG does not lossily compress the result pixels, but it cannot restore a photo already enlarged or reduced by size matching to its original sharpness. The JPG and WebP quality slider affects the file size and the degree of lossy compression, and it does not apply to PNG. The file size varies according to the photo content and the browser encoder.

Keeping original pixels means that the horizontal and vertical size of the photo is not changed when it is placed. It does not mean that the bytes, EXIF, and ICC profile of the original file are also duplicated. Color interpretation and rounding of transparent pixels can be affected by browser processing. If the job is too large, reduce the number of photos or the original resolution and try adding them again. While an error is displayed, saving the previous preview is blocked, which reduces the chance of receiving an incorrect file.

    Frequently asked questions

Are the photos left uncropped even if their sizes differ?

Yes. Keeping original pixels, the default, uses each photo's horizontal and vertical pixel counts as they are and places the photo in the center. Around a smaller photo and in the leftover cells of the grid, the background you selected is visible. If you choose matching the width and height, the size is adjusted while the aspect ratio is kept, and the photo is not cropped. A small photo is enlarged and may become blurry.

Which format do you save in to keep a transparent background?

Leave the background transparent and save as PNG or WebP. If the original has transparent areas, they are kept as well. JPG does not support transparency, so it fills transparent parts with white. This is not a feature that automatically cuts out a photo that already contains a white background, so use a background removal tool first.

How many images can be joined, and is there a limit on the save size?

You can add up to 24 photos, 20MB per file, and 80MB in total. The total pixel count of the originals is 64 million, and the result is up to 32 million pixels and 16,384px on one side. If you exceed the limit, you are informed without an arbitrary size reduction. Split the photos or reduce the size first and add them again. Depending on the device memory, even a smaller job may not be processed.

Are the photos uploaded to a server, or does the original file change?

Joining the selected photos and creating the save file are performed in the current browser. This tool does not send photo files to a server or overwrite the originals. Only the new result file is downloaded, and the work disappears if you close the tab or refresh. Save the finished copy, then close the page.

Are phone photo orientation and moving images kept as well?

The EXIF orientation of a phone JPEG is placed in the orientation interpreted by the browser. PNG, JPG, and WebP input is supported, but animation is processed as a single still image and the motion is not preserved. During saving, metadata such as EXIF and the original color profile is not preserved, so for work that needs color management for printing or keeping the original metadata, use a separate editor.
