How to convert salary to hourly pay
A salary figure alone can hide the time needed to earn it. This calculator divides annual pay by the hours in your working pattern: hours per day × working days per week × 52 weeks. Monthly pay is multiplied by 12 first. It shows hourly pay, pay per minute, daily pay and average monthly working hours, then lets you include a round-trip commute. This is a nominal comparison for the schedule you enter; paid leave, irregular shifts and unpaid time may make your actual annual hours different.
The South Korean comparison is a country-specific reference. Its 2026 hourly amount converts to $7.73, the eight-hour daily amount to $61.83, and the 209-hour monthly equivalent to $1,615.32 using the default ECB rate. The 209-hour basis assumes 40 scheduled weekly hours plus eight paid weekly-rest hours. It is not the same as this calculator's generic working-hours estimate, and it does not decide whether a US employer complies with wage law.
Use the results to compare job offers with different schedules, understand the time cost of a longer commute, or put a pay rise in hourly terms. The eight spending cards are illustrative converted examples, not current local retail prices. Calculation runs in this browser; the tool does not save or send the pay you enter.

Hourly pay including your commute
Commute-adjusted pay divides the same annual pay by working time plus the round-trip commute. For an eight-hour day and a 50-minute one-way commute, the daily time commitment becomes about 9.67 hours and the hourly figure falls by about 17%. No pay is deducted; only the time denominator changes. This helps compare commuting patterns, but it does not classify commuting as paid working time under any law.
South Korea: announced 2027 reference
South Korea has announced a 2027 hourly minimum whose default converted equivalent is $8.01, with $1,674.80 for the 209-hour monthly basis. The original Korean hourly figure rises by about 3.7%. It applies from 2027-01-01; this calculator's benchmark remains the 2026 Korean amount. Exchange conversion is illustrative and does not create a US wage threshold.
Limits and sources
The model uses 52 weeks and the working pattern you enter. It does not calculate paid weekly rest, overtime or other premiums, taxes, insurance deductions, or which allowances count towards a legal minimum. Results are not take-home pay or a legal compliance decision. South Korean reference values were checked against the Minimum Wage Commission and Ministry of Employment and Labor on 2026-11-01. Converted guide figures use the dated ECB snapshot shown in the settings.
Use a contract and the relevant local authority to check legal pay requirements. The South Korean comparison and converted sample prices are reference examples. If your schedule includes unpaid leave, irregular hours or different paid weeks, adjust your inputs and compare the assumptions before relying on the result.

FAQ
How do I convert salary to hourly pay?
Divide annual pay by daily working hours × working days per week × 52. An annual salary of $50,000 with eight hours per day and five days per week uses 2,080 yearly hours, giving about $24.04 per hour. The model assumes the same weekly pattern across 52 weeks.
What does hourly pay including commuting mean?
It divides the same annual salary by working hours plus the round-trip commute. A longer commute lowers the time-adjusted figure, even though the salary stays the same. This is a personal time comparison; it does not say that commuting is legally paid work.
Which minimum-wage reference is shown?
The optional comparison is South Korea's 2026 reference, shown in US dollars using the selected exchange rate. At the default ECB rate it is $7.73/hour, $61.83 for eight hours and $1,615.32 for the 209-hour monthly basis. That monthly basis includes paid weekly rest. It is not a US minimum wage or a compliance test.
Are taxes, paid rest and overtime included?
No. This tool divides the pay you enter by the hours in a 52-week working pattern. It does not separately calculate taxes, insurance, paid rest or overtime, night and holiday premiums. Check your contract to understand which amounts are already included in the salary you enter.
Can I use monthly pay?
Yes. Choose Monthly pay and enter the monthly amount in US dollars, including cents if needed. The calculator multiplies it by 12 to obtain annual pay, then applies the same hourly formula. Keep the same hours and days when comparing monthly and annual offers.
