Counts use A4 portrait (210×297 mm), 12 mm margins and the page-number area. Only whole cells fit; the remaining space is shared equally on both sides to center the grid.

Print graph paper at its actual size

Graph paper serves different tasks depending on its spacing. A 1 mm grid helps read lengths and areas on plans or experiment graphs. A 5 mm grid suits notes and math exercises, while 10 or 20 mm cells leave room for children to write numbers or draw a game board. The seven common presets are available immediately. Custom spacing from 1 to 20 mm in 0.5 mm steps, color and line weight are under More settings.

The PDF stores lines at millimeter coordinates as vectors, so zooming does not turn them into blocky image edges. Printing at 100% preserves the intended spacing. A 50 mm ruler in the lower-left margin helps reveal printer scaling: measure that ruler on your first printed sheet before using the paper for measurements. The PNG contains only the first page and is a raster image; use the PDF for printing multiple sheets.

When to use it

  • Print several 2 to 5 mm sheets for coordinates, functions or geometry exercises.
  • Use a 1 mm grid for a scaled room plan or a furniture layout.
  • Make dot-grid inserts for a bullet journal or handwritten diary.
  • Choose 10 or 20 mm cells for early number writing or classroom grid games.

Before printing

  • Select A4 and Actual size (100%) in the print dialog. Fit to page makes cells smaller.
  • Test one sheet first: dense 1 mm lines may look faint or spread depending on your printer and ink.
  • For double-sided notes, paper of at least 80 g/m² helps reduce lines showing through.

How to use it

  1. Choose one of the seven spacing presets. The default is a 5 mm line grid.
  2. Check the preview and the cell count above it.
  3. Open More settings to change spacing, dots, color, line weight or A4 orientation.
  4. Set up to 30 pages, or add a title and date/name fields for a worksheet.
  5. Download the PDF, print at 100%, then measure its 50 mm ruler.
SpacingPresets: 1, 2, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 mm lines, plus 5 mm dots. Custom: 1 to 20 mm in 0.5 mm steps.
Major guidesNone, or every 2, 4, 5 or 10 cells. With 1 to 2 mm spacing, an even interval of at least 4 also adds intermediate guides halfway between major lines.
Dot gridA dot at each cell corner. Dots are larger only where both major-guide intervals intersect.

Paper and filesA4 portrait or landscape, 12 mm margins, 5 colors, 3 weights, optional title and date/name fields, up to 30 PDF pages. PNG: first page at 300 dpi pixel dimensions.

Lines or dots?

Lines make cell boundaries easy to count and help align tables or geometric drawings. They can also compete with handwriting. Dots give you reference points while leaving more open space around words, which suits journals that mix notes with occasional diagrams. Choose lines when the grid itself is part of the information, such as a measured plan or plotted graph.

Printing a clear 1 mm grid

Dense, dark lines can make a whole sheet look heavy. For 1 to 2 mm spacing, this tool makes minor lines thinner and lighter. The 1 mm preset adds intermediate 5 mm guides and major 1 cm lines. Try Thin if ink spreads, or Normal if lines are too faint. Printing directly from the PDF usually preserves fine lines better than photocopying the sheet.

Method and limitations

This tool lays out line or dot grids on A4 in millimeters and creates vector PDFs and PNG images. It does not replace official drafting or surveying paper standards.

Whole cells are centered within 12 mm margins. A title or date/name header reserves 14 mm at the top. Major guides and intermediate lines follow the selected interval; PDF dots use round line caps. The 50 mm ruler sits below the grid. Header text and user titles are rasterized in the PDF, while grid lines remain vectors.

The printed result depends on printer margins and scaling. Measure the 50 mm ruler before relying on the sheet. Physical print verification is still required for your printer.

FAQ

How does a 1 mm grid compare with a 5 mm grid, and will fine lines print clearly?

Both use evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines. A fine 1 mm grid is useful for reading measurements, while 5 mm paper is common for notes. This tool draws faint minor lines, intermediate guides at 5 mm and major guides at 1 cm for its 1 mm preset. Lines stay vector-based in the PDF. If they look faint in print, try Normal or Bold in More settings.

Why are my printed 5 mm cells smaller than 5 mm?

Fit to page can shrink the sheet to accommodate the printer's margins. Select A4 and Actual size or 100% instead. Measure the 50 mm ruler in the lower-left margin. If it is about 49 mm, the sheet has been reduced. You can turn off the ruler in More settings once you have checked the scale.

When should I choose a dot grid?

Dots mark cell corners without drawing complete boundaries. They work well for bullet journals, handwriting and diary inserts. The 5 mm preset uses larger dots at 1 cm intersections to make counting easier. You can also switch other spacings to dots. PDF dots remain round when enlarged.

How many cells fit on one A4 sheet?

At the default portrait settings with 12 mm margins and the page-number area, 5 mm paper has 37×53 cells, 10 mm paper has 18×26, and 1 mm paper has 186×267. Landscape changes the counts. A title or date/name header reserves 14 mm, reducing the 5 mm vertical count to 50. The preview summary shows the current counts.

Can I add a title or download several pages? Are settings saved?

More settings lets you create up to 30 pages of the same grid in one PDF with page numbers below. Add a title of up to 30 characters and optional date/name fields for worksheets. PNG saves only the first page. Settings and titles are used in your browser; the tool does not send them to a server or save them.
